Luis Guinard

Luis Guinard is a partner of Guinard & Noriega. His practice is concentrated in the area of Intellectual Property, directed mainly to litigation and patents, as well as Banking and Commercial Law. He has been recognized by different publications as a leading lawyer on intellectual property issues, such as Chambers & Partners, Managing Intellectual Property and WTR 1000.

Other activities:

  • Professor of Intellectual Property Law, Banking Law and Civil Procedural Law at the Santa Maria La Antigua Catholic University and Professor at the Commercial Law and Procedural Law Master’s Degree Programs at that University
  • Member of the Panamanian Association of Intellectual Property Law. (President from 2010 to 2016 and member of the board from 1998 until 2019). 
  • Member of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI). (Delegate of the Panamanian Group from 2006 until 2012. He is currently chairman of the Competition Committee of said Association. President of the Competition Committee of the association (2018-2021)
  • Member of the Licensing Executives Society, and President of the Andean Chapter of said association from 2010 to 2012. 
  • President of the National Group of Panama to the Internationale Association of the Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI). 
  • Participated in the drafting of Law 35 of 1996 that regulates Industrial Property in Panama as well as its current regulations.
  • Drafted the Law on Chattel Mortgage in 2013. Represented the private sector in the negotiation of the Intellectual Property Chapter of the free trade agreements with the United States, Peru, Mexico, EFTA and the Association Agreement with the European Union.
  • Lecturer locally and internationally, invited by various professional associations and universities. 
  • Judge of the ethics tribunal of the Interamerican Intellectual Property Association.
